Ice Land (2008), outdoor installation.
wood, metal, twine, electric reindeer, bottle caps, ice/environmental elements.

Ice Land was constructed during the exhibit at ellO gallery with Sigtryggur Berg Sigmarsson & Helgi Thorsson, aka Stilluppsteypa from Iceland in February 2008 by John Fanning & Glenn DiLando as the installation-dumpster duo TrillHaus. It’s a cheap gag turned into a sizeable total piece, incorporating various scrap elements we have acquired around the gallery. The end result of the project resembles a kind of cobbled together deconstructualist “ship”, as if the early Vikings were dirt poor artists attempting to cross over to the Faroe Islands or so. There are little ice-castings which were formerly those horrid coffee cups you get everywhere these days. We agreed they resemble wee Viking sailors quite well. And of course, it wouldn’t be Ice Land without bunches of beer bottle caps, since the Icelandics are such notorious drunks. It also snowed the perfect amount during the time this was installed, adding a much needed environmental element that pulled the whole project together.
