Sea, Sex & Sun (2007) Installation featuring individual pieces connected by the theme of 'Sea, Sex & Sun' for ellO gallery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA. September 2007.
from the exhibition text:
For the Seacoast Undercurrent show (John Fanning) has created 4 matted hybrid-collages & an installation revolving around the 1978 disco hit song "Sea, Sex & Sun" by French singer/legend Serge Gainsbourg (deceased). A performance “music-video” from French television of the song is the basis for the matted pieces as well as the back "wallpaper" of the orgiastic centerpiece. In addition Fanning has incorporated a number of his hand sewn/modified hybrid-animals watching over the debauchery which were exhibited in the beginning of the year in Dover, NH. While Gainsbourg was probably singing about the glamourous beaches of the Caribbean, Fanning has grafted the idea onto our seacoast in New Hampshire while also acknowledging the world through interjections of foreign languages & refuse.
