Müllstadt: (German- "Trash City"). An attempt to make a city out of primarily packaging material as well as bits & pieces of trash and recycling. Executed on a tour/living experiment of Europe in 2006.
24-27 April 2006 - Skopje, Macedonia
This Müllstadt was set up in one room of the space called 'Ludnica' (Macedonian for 'Mental Hospital') and I performed in the other room, which did lead to a bit of disconnection to the city. For this installation I also had wonderful help searching the city for trash. A team of us went around, fished things out of dumpsters and cleaned off items, which seems extra absurd considering most of the leftover Müllstadt was subsequentially put in the trash (Macedonia does NOT recycle). The installation was left in situ for a period of about 1 week after I left. I also headed a small workshop talking about the problems of waste in Macedonia and showing how to re-use almost any item for art.
