Müllstadt: (German- "Trash City"). An attempt to make a city out of primarily packaging material as well as bits & pieces of trash and recycling. Executed on a tour/living experiment of Europe in 2006.
12-18 April 2006 - La Spezia, Italy
La Spezia was one of those rare moments of magic in an artist's life, where your vision is free to occupy an entire space. Wonderfully curated by Matteo Lucchetti & hosted by Studio Baus. I was given a week to transform the gallery into a Müllstadt as well as incorporating other examples of random trash-art and found items and a few early covered animal pieces. I was able to make a full-stadt, complete with outer-lying paper-refugee camp and newspaper mountains. I also did 2 performances in the space with Chicken & Monkey in collaboration with composer/performer Claudio Parodi. Nothing beats wandering around an Italian city in April looking in dumpsters, especially at night and in a city small enough where you feel there won't be too much trouble heading your way.
