[trash worship/venerazione dei rifiuti] 3 actions executed in Italy & Slovenija. These were some of my last in a more "concert" style format which I am still trying to get away from. These actions revolved around the idea of worshipping trash as if they were sacred objects. Chicken & Monkey would throw trash at me from their little tent and I would re-arrange them into a sacred formation and then worship them. Each performance I executed various ritualistic hand gestures & physical exercises
[how to make conceptual art on canvas] C&M threw various objects at me and I attempted to paint with them on a blank canvas, yet was constantly coming up with what seemed to be nothing. At the end I revealed I was in fact making conceptual art based on the leftover auras of the various objects I was using to "paint" with.
[trash/requiem/inflatables] 2 performances devoted to trash, inflatables and the spirit of making performances within the context of a regular house transformed into a youth art dumpster.
[müllstadt] a series of performances executed on a tour of Europe in 2006, featuring installations set up for each show of a city made up of various types of packaging-trash. More in-depth pictures of the installations are here. I managed to get more video documentation than photo-documentation.
[eradicating the jewel case] I completely HATE CD jewel cases. It's a complete shame that they are still the most common way to house CD's. In this action I excuted a simple, slightly cliché destrction of jewel cases with a hammer, interspersed with boughts of yelling & meditating. C&M played around with pieces from the destroyed cases. Sadly, I had to throw away the mess I made, but the trash is where they would have had to end up anyway.
A performance from Massaccesi (or John Fanning) usually revolves around the concept of highlighting, vilifying, redefining or celebrating waste, language, geography, tension, confusion, real life problems in surreal settings & the like. Performing along with me are my closest friends Chicken & Monkey who, without making a sound, help me out or sometimes ignore me all together. Each performance has a central theme of disruptive, chaotic & meditative sound and actions.
[c&m und der durian] 21 Dec 2007 - Graz, Austria
[c&m und der durian] The theme for the Interpenetration Festival in Graz was durians. I explored this theme with a chicken & monkey film (since they could not make it live) & my own surprises I found under a fake plastic-bag "durian".
[schoggi-schtooss + other lovely examples of schweizerdeutsch ] 14 May 2008 - Portsmouth, NH, US
[schoggi-schtooss ... ] To celebrate Swiss actionist & sweetheart Sudden Infant's performance at ellO gallery, I decided to give a small lesson in charming Swiss slang as his warm up act. Chicken & Monkey joined me for their first live support in a while, everyone enjoyed thoroughly and learned important things..
